Stephanie believes that we deserve to live a meaningful and fulfilled life, where we feel at peace in whatever situation we find ourselves, while learning to navigate through the challenges life throws at us. My therapeutic approach is direct, nonjudgmental, patient and empathic discussing your past from childhood to present, and uncovering distorted thinking patterns and discovering other perspectives. My aim is to collaborate with you to achieve your goals and create a life you want to live.

I believe that everyone can change, heal and grow at any time in life. I don't believe that there is a limit to human capacity regardless of background or trauma. No one is beyond hope. I think the main reason we develop roadblocks, confusion or even mental illness is because of unhealthy learned behaviors and thoughts that we have been conditioned to believe are true.

I am very passionate about helping people know and appreciate who they really are, and not what painful experiences have conditioned you to believe you should be. It is my hope that after understanding how the past has shaped the current, and presses on the future, you can heal from it, move forward, and we can work together and start to create who you want to be. You can contact me directly at stephaniethom@livingfullytherapy.com.

Focus Areas

I work with adults 18 and above.  Although the following focus areas are categorized into separate sections that does not mean they may not overlap, or that what you are experiencing has to fall into that specified category.

Anxiety & Depression:

Anxiety and depression are on a spectrum and depending on certain circumstances the same situation can affect you differently. I will support you by helping you to identify the root issue, target triggers, increase coping skills, and give you the opportunity to start showing up in your life the way you want to experience it.

Body Image, Eating Disorders, Low Self-Esteem & Self-Worth:

With so many voices telling you how we should look, who you should be, and how you should feel, this can sometimes lead you to seeing yourself as unacceptable.  This can manifest in various ways including having a poor body image, low self-esteem or self-worth or even an eating disorder. I would like to support you by providing a safe place where you can discuss your feelings, challenge negative thoughts that erode your self-worth, work on building self-esteem and learn to appreciate who you are.

Christian counseling:

There are some people who would like aspects of their faith interwoven in therapy to help them understand or work through a difficult situation, or they may need support in strengthening their faith when it is being challenged or questioned. While there are others who are struggling with aspects of their faith that have wounded them, and may have even caused trauma.  Let us work together to either fortify your faith and see your difficult situation through that lens, or work on deconstructing certain beliefs, and possibly gaining new perspectives to help guide you towards healing.

Grief:

The concept of what grief is, or how it looks has changed over the years. It now includes situations beyond death, and can include trauma, the loss of a relationship, change in environment, misscarriage, even loss of identity to name a few. Likewise, how we have been socialized to express grief can be so limiting, which can contribute to other issues manifesting. As a person who has gone through the grieving process myself, I would be honored to walk with you through yours and help you through your healing process.

Trauma:

The meaning of trauma has changed over the years, and can include anything from a distressful situation, disturbing event to major life altering events.  Regardless of where you find yourself on the spectrum, trauma can impact us in various ways. I will support and empower you by providing a safe, compassionate and nonjudgmental environment where we can hold space together, discuss how it has affected you both mentally and somatically, and work towards healing, freedom and restoration.
